Job Description:

The Counsel for Private Funds position at Ares Management Corporation is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced attorney to join the Legal team. This position will be responsible for advising on various legal matters related to private fund formation and will report to an Assistant General Counsel. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of success in relationship management with internal and external stakeholders. This is a great opportunity to work with a dynamic and growing company in a team-oriented legal group.

Responsibilities:

- Support all aspects of the private fund formation process, including fund structuring, legal documentation review, investor negotiation, and managing the closing process
- Assist in developing and implementing legal and operational infrastructure to support fundraising and operation of funds
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple departments and business lines to facilitate onboarding and operation of private funds and accounts
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax and securities laws by working with tax and compliance teams
- Stay up to date on relevant corporate governance and securities law developments
- Manage relationships with external counsel

Qualifications:

- JD required with a strong academic background
- 4-7 years of private fund formation experience
- Experience collaborating with colleagues across multiple functions, including those in senior and executive leadership
- Strong communication skills and client service orientation
- Excellent time management skills and ability to collaborate with others
- Outstanding leadership and project management capabilities
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands
- Creative problem-solver with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Passionate about bringing new ideas to increase efficiency
- Ability to balance legal and commercial aspects of an issue
- Analytical mindset and interest in new developments in the industry

Reporting Relationships:

Associate General Counsel, Private Funds

Compensation:

- Anticipated base salary range: $225,000 to $250,000
- Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus
- Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and more
- Additional benefits such as access to a medical advisory team, mental health app, financial wellness benefit, and more
