The Legal Aid Society of Rochester, NY, also known as LASROC, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Staff Attorney to join our Housing and Consumer Law Unit. LASROC has been committed to providing high-quality civil legal services to low- and moderate-income litigants for over 100 years. We are proud recipients of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorney’s 2022 Family Friendly Award, and we are dedicated to ensuring dignity, equality, and fairness for all.

Salary Information:

- Compensation: $70, - $82,000 Based on experience
- Hybrid Work Schedule
- Paid Lunch Hour
- 15 days of vacation to start (More based on experience)
- 96 hours of sick leave
- 32 hours of personal time
- 14 paid holidays a year
- $600 per year internet stipend
- 3% match on the 401(k) or Roth 401(k) plan of your choice
- 5% language differential for being proficient in a program-relevant language

Job Title: Staff Attorney - Housing and Consumer Law Unit

Experience Information:

- Juris Doctor (Candidates who are Admitted to NYS Bar; and Candidates who have received their JD and qualify for a judicial practice order are also invited to apply)
- High level of initiative, self-motivation, and organization
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Strong negotiating ability
- Ability to articulate thoughts and ideas efficiently and accurately
- Respectful and empathetic consideration for clients
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and community partners
- Access to reliable transportation
- Bilingual capabilities are highly desired

Responsibilities:

- Provide legal representation to low and middle-income litigants in Rochester City Court, Supreme Court, County Court, and Federal Bankruptcy Court
- Handle housing and consumer law cases and other matters in Monroe, Ontario, and surrounding counties with a focus on foreclosure and eviction prevention
- Work as part of a team of professionals dedicated to the mission of LASROC
- Provide direct representation, legal counseling, community outreach, education, and training

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor (Candidates who are Admitted to NYS Bar; and Candidates who have received their JD and qualify for a judicial practice order are also invited to apply)
- High level of initiative, self-motivation, and organization
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
