Environmental Counsel

The Counsel will be responsible for the following:

Providing legal counsel to clients on regulatory programs for air, water, waste, natural resources, and chemicals.
Defending clients against regulatory enforcement actions.

Litigating high-exposure environmental and toxic tort cases.
Representing clients in product liability and mass tort matters.
Supporting the firm's national environmental regulatory, emergency response, and environmental litigation practices.
Working independently and as part of a team to handle challenging legal and environmental issues.
Developing and maintaining relationships with clients.
Assisting with business development efforts.
Mentoring and supervising junior attorneys and staff.

The Atlanta office of McGuireWoods is currently seeking a Counsel for their Environmental and Mass Tort Litigation Department. This is a great opportunity for an experienced attorney with a strong background in environmental law to join a prestigious law firm and work with a highly skilled team of attorneys. The ideal candidate will have at least 12 years of experience and be a member of the Georgia bar or another state bar with the ability to become admitted to the Georgia bar. In this role, the Counsel will be responsible for providing legal counsel to clients on regulatory programs for air, water, waste, natural resources, and chemicals, as well as defending clients against regulatory enforcement actions. The Counsel will also assist with policy issues related to climate change, environmental justice, and emerging contaminants, and will have the opportunity to work on high-exposure environmental and toxic tort cases. Additionally, the Counsel will support the firm's national environmental regulatory, emergency response, and environmental litigation practices, and will have the opportunity to mentor and supervise junior attorneys and staff. Qualifications:

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

Status as an active member of the Georgia bar, or status as an active member in good standing of the bar in at least one state or the District of Columbia, and the ability to become admitted to the Georgia bar.
Experience with, or demonstrated interest in major federal environmental statutes.
Strong analytical, research, writing, and oral communication skills.
Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills, the ability to work well under deadlines, and the ability to assume significant client responsibilities.
Creative and critical thinking skills.

Experience:

The ideal candidate should have at least 12 years of experience handling matters arising under major federal environmental regulatory programs, with specific experience in the Clean Water Act being a plus. Candidates should also have a strong academic background, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The candidate should also have a desire to become a leader in matters involving challenging legal and environmental issues.
