An Anglo-American multinational law firm, DLA Piper has more than 75 offices across 31 countries. In terms of the number of attorneys, DLA Piper is the largest law firm in the world with more than 4200 attorneys on its payroll. At the top of the rung in terms of revenue, the firm made USD 2.25 billion in 2011 and earned an average profit of USD 1.225 million per equity partner.
Formed in January 2005 by a merger between three firms-Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich LLP, Piper Rudnick LLP, and DLA LLP-DLA Piper currently consists of two partnerships-DLA Piper US LLP and DLA Piper International LLP. However, although these two partnerships are led by the same management board, they are financially independent of one another.
Moreover, with its motto of "building strong and substantial client relationships," DLA Piper is the first law firm ever to get the ISO 14001 certification across all its offices worldwide. This motto of putting the client first has helped the firm form strong business ties with various national and multinational corporations of all levels across the continents and handles all their legal matters concerning a wide array of practice areas including commercial, corporate, employment, and real estate law as well as taxation and litigation.
Formed in January 2005 by the merger of DLA, Piper Rudnick, and Gray Cary, DLA Piper witnessed aggressive growth in the CIS, Germany, Spain, Asia, the Middle East, and important US markets from its very beginning. This growth can be attributed to the firm's simple strategy of creating a truly global firm that is capable of successfully addressing the most important legal needs of all its clients irrespective of where they do business and whether their business involves coordination across multiple countries and jurisdictions.
Going back to the year 2004, in July, Piper Rudnick and DLA LLP announced their intention to merge on New Year's Day. Following this decision, in October 2004, Piper Rudnick agreed to merge with Gray Cary and in December 2004, DLA LLP, Gray Cary, and Piper Rudnick announced their approval of a three-way merger that became effective on January 1, 2005. The new firm was christened DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary.
Then, in July 2005, DLA Piper acquired the 87-attorney EY Law in the Commonwealth of Independent States, including offices in Moscow and St Petersburg and in December the same year, DLA Piper opened its Beijing office with a team of attorneys from Coudert Brothers' Beijing practice.
January 2006 saw the opening of DLA Piper's first office in the Middle East, in Dubai. The firm then opened offices in Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait City, Muscat, and Riyadh in the next three years.
On September 1, 2006, the firm changed its name to DLA Piper and then merged with its Norway-based alliance firm.
Over the next few years, DLA Piper kept forming strategic partnerships and penetrated the legal markets of Australia, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Brazil.
In February 2012, DLA Piper further extended its global reach and opened an office in Mexico City. Today, the firm continues to strategize more such partnerships in order to deliver on its promise of "Truly Local, Truly Global."

Summer associate program

A survey of the summer associates at DLA Piper revealed that the supervising attorneys constantly provided constructive feedback to the associates at every opportunity, thereby helping the summer associates steepen their learning curve and excel at their assignments.

The starting salary at DLA Piper is in the range of USD 13,500-160,000, depending on the location of the office. The most coveted positions with respect to the salary and benefits offered are at the firm's Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, Reston, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., offices.
