Advice to law firm management: Having a scheduling system that can be open to more changes would help out a lot with stress related work issues.

Pros: The people here are friendly and always want to help. Everyone is professional and courteous to each other.

Cons: The work is demanding and the room to change schedules is often never an option. The demand is very stressful on most people.

Advice to law firm management: I've learned to prioritize and manage my skills in a better manner. You need to work hard along with your senior attorneys if you want to learn new and interesting things.

Pros: I loved the culture and internal communications at Shutts & Bowen, L.L.P. Everyone is so engaged in their work and I felt compelled to work harder during my time there. The work-life balance is good with flexible working hours and volunteering opportunities, without pushing for outrageous hours.

Cons: It's a fast paced working environment at Shutts & Bowen so you are always on the go. There is no time for standing around.

We believe that being an equal opportunity firm means going beyond mere compliance with anti-discrimination legislation. At Shutts & Bowen LLP, we believe that our clients receive the highest quality service when their legal teams are drawn from professionals mirroring the increasing diversity of the marketplace. Our commitment to diversity is reflected in our firm's policies, programs and committees, and through our efforts to build and maintain a culture that values and gathers strength from difference.

Summer associate program

Shutts & Bowen's 2L summer clerkship program is designed to expose students to a representative cross-section of the legal services we provide. The law students we hire through this program are not assigned a specific practice group, rather, we offer summer associates the opportunity to experience as many departments as possible - Litigation, Real Estate, Corporate, Tax and International Law, to name a few.

Summer associates are assigned research, writing, and preliminary drafting of memoranda, pleadings, and briefs. They are encouraged to observe attorneys in depositions, hearings, and trials; and attend client meetings, if appropriate.

The South Florida Association for Law Placement has organized a pro bono work day in Miami, where summer associates, interns, attorneys and placement personnel from around South Florida participate in improving the community. The firm also hosts luncheons for attorneys and summer associates, as well as social functions, so that summer associates can get to know their colleagues on a personal level.

Our summer program accurately reflects life as a full-time associate and we are proud of our history of hiring entry level associates through the program.

I was incredibly happy with the site. I thought it was very easy to use; had significantly more postings than any other site (or combination of sites); and provided a lot of useful information. (the number, and caliber, of job postings). Exactly what I was looking for – I have 5 years’ experience and was looking for a lateral move or an in-house position, and that’s exactly what I found!
