Advice to law firm management:
Believe in your abilities and focus on your work. You can achieve great things in this firm if you work hard and show full dedication.

Pros:
I have worked as an attorney at this place for more than seven years. At this place people are legitimately smart and always interested in helping you to advance your career. My supervisor is very friendly and always willing to solve issues I face. I must say that the environment is very work friendly at this place. The work-life balance is also satisfactory.

Cons:
The firm is very work focused in its outlook and does not relax its requirements for anyone. I also feel that some IT persons are difficult to work with in the firm.

Advice to law firm management:
Highly recommend you restructure your paralegal unit.

Pros:
My coworkers have always been my favorite part of working at this firm. They make for a really great vibe throughout the office. We have really wonderful benefits and 401K packages.

Cons:
There is very poor structure here. The paralegal system needs to be readjusted. Even for a small firm the pay was substantially less than market value. This is especially frustrating when this firm offers no opportunity for growth or advancement. When I left this firm, I started at more than double my old salary.

Diversity Write a review

Reed Smith LLP feels that with a legal practice straddling the globe and spanning the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, they are a body as diverse as the dissimilar community they are privileged to serve. Yet they believe that their diverse structure does not translate into true diversity unless there is full integration of the unique talents and perspectives of every aspect of their business.

Reed Smith adheres rigidly to its core values of Integrity, Quality, Teamwork & Respect, Performance, and Innovation & Improvement. This they say is what drives them to the heights that they have attained. The firm priority is to recruit, retain and promote individuals not just without regard to their race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status or physical challenge, but because of the unique qualities and the value they bring to the firm and its clients.

The firm has a vibrant Women's Initiative Network (WINRS) to promote the successful development and advancement of their women lawyers.

Summer associate program

Reed Smith offers law students first-rate work in a challenging and busy atmosphere where their contributions count from day one. Summer associates will become immersed in law firm life by completing assignments relating to actual client situations. Each assignment presents a fresh opportunity for summer associates to hone their research, writing, judgment, communication and analytical skills.

The firm offers its summer associates numerous chances to participate in both formal and informal training programs, such as: managing partner's forum, mediation and mergers and acquisitions clinics, law firm economics, cross-cultural training and legal writing. Summer associates also have numerous opportunities to participate in pro bono and community service projects.

Respondents say that the experience they garnered was invaluable and they relished the opportunity to learn from partners and associates who helped them to focus on what they really wanted to do.
