Intellectual Property Counsel - Minneapolis, Minnesota

General Mills is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Counsel to join our Legal & Corporate Affairs team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In this role, you will play a crucial part in protecting the company's substantial investments in new technologies, as well as providing legal counsel and support for intellectual property related matters. As part of a small and collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to develop and execute IP strategies for assigned business and technology groups, while also supporting various mergers and acquisitions activities and providing training for key employees on IP matters.

Responsibilities:

- Develop and execute IP strategies to protect the company's investments in new technologies
- Serve as a legal expert in IP law, with a focus on patents and trade secrets
- Provide legal counsel to assigned business and technology groups
- Secure appropriate rights for technology investments, including patents, trade secrets, and other forms of IP
- Draft and negotiate IP-related agreements and provisions in business agreements
- Support mergers and acquisitions activities
- Assist with IP litigation and dispute resolution
- Conduct training for key employees on IP matters

Requirements:

- Juris Doctor (.) from a nationally accredited law school
- United States Patent Attorney Registration
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, or similar scientific discipline, or demonstrated experience in patent preparation and prosecution in similar technology fields
- 4-6 years of experience as an attorney in IP law
- Admitted (or willing to gain admission) to practice law in the state of Minnesota
- Strong strategic, creative, and analytical thinking abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Broad experience in IP (. patent prosecution, opinion preparation, IP transactions, litigation support)

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with database IP rights and patent preparation and prosecution in machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Experience with copyrights and copyright enforcement
- Mixture of law firm and in-house experience
