Volunteer Legal Services Hawai?i, a non-profit organization, offers a Summer Internship Program for law school and paralegal students interested in gaining practical legal experience through pro bono work. This program provides students with the opportunity to work on real cases and interact with clients, while also fulfilling their pro bono requirements.

As a Summer Intern, you will be exposed to a wide range of legal topics and have the chance to assist with intake, workshops, and clinics. You will also have the opportunity to draft case summaries, research legal issues, and work on resource material development. This hands-on experience will not only enhance your legal skills, but also provide valuable subject matter knowledge.

To participate in the formal Summer Internship Program, students are expected to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per week for six weeks. This allows for a flexible schedule and the opportunity to balance other commitments, such as summer courses or part-time jobs. However, if you are unable to commit to the Summer Internship Program, there is also the option to fulfill your pro bono requirements during the school year through Volunteer Legal Services Hawai?i’s Law Student Pro Bono Program.

Through the Law Student Pro Bono Program, you will engage in many of the same activities as the Summer Internship Program, providing you with a similar experience and the chance to build your professional network. This program is ideal for students who are unable to commit to a full-time internship during the summer, but still want to gain practical legal experience.

This is an unpaid position, but the experience and skills gained are invaluable. As a Summer Intern at Volunteer Legal Services Hawai?i, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community while also furthering your legal education.
