Attorney-Privacy Team

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a qualified attorney to join the Consumer Protection Division as part of the Data Privacy and Security Team. This full-time position, with a salary range of $8, - $10, per month, will be based in one of the following locations: Houston, Austin, Dallas, or San Antonio. The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout Texas, providing exemplary legal representation in diverse areas of law. The attorney in this role will focus on enforcing Texas’s privacy laws, including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Law (TDPSA). The responsibilities of this position include conducting and supervising consumer protection investigations, litigating civil enforcement cases, and researching and analyzing complex legal matters related to data privacy. The successful candidate will also monitor privacy, cyber, and technology developments at the state and federal level, provide legal advice and counsel to clients and management, and participate in rulemaking and community outreach activities.

The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and at least three years of full-time experience in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation. They must be licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas and have excellent skills in legal research, writing, and analysis. Experience with technology, including electronic discovery platforms, is also required. Additionally, the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines, as well as communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment, and work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment, are important for success in this role. The candidate must also be able to work in person at their assigned OAG work location and travel up to 15% of the time.

The preferred qualifications for this position include eight years of full-time experience in data privacy, consumer protection, privacy compliance, or commercial litigation, as well as knowledge of relevant laws and certifications in the privacy field.
