The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) is seeking a Staff Attorney to join their team in California. As a national nonprofit legal support center, the ILRC works to enhance the capacity of immigrants, community organizations, and the legal sector to build a democratic society that values diversity and the rights of all people. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to one of ILRC’s Senior Managing Attorneys. The ILRC currently has a hybrid work model that requires two in-office days per week. Key Responsibilities: - Represent the ILRC in various local and statewide enforcement coalitions - Support California decarceration campaigns through the California Alliance for Youth and Community Justice (CAYCJ) - Provide individualized campaign strategy technical assistance - Analyze local and state legislation affecting immigration enforcement - Support written resources and strategy around national enforcement issues - Develop a broader narrative around criminalization, prosecution, and deportation in California - Interact with media, give press interviews, and support media campaign strategy - Participate in regional collaboratives and task forces - Attend legal workshops to screen community members and assist with immigration applications - Provide legal trainings on immigration law and policy to a range of audiences - Engage in intensive writing, including updating manuals, practice advisories, and online resources - Write grant proposals, reports, and represent the ILRC in meetings with funders and supporters - Travel for trainings, meetings, and other events throughout California and the United States Qualifications: - Three to seven years of immigration law expertise - Experience, exposure, or interest in policy work - Commitment to abolitionist values - Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills - Exceptional time management and public speaking abilities - Commitment to immigrant rights and understanding of criminalization issues - Strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously - Willingness to travel throughout California and the United States - Active Bar membership in good standing for any state in the United States or the District of Columbia Salary/Benefits: - Competitive pay based on the ILRC salary scale for Attorneys - Excellent benefits, including medical/dental/vision insurance, flexible spending account, vacation and sick leave, and retirement plan option - Annual professional development stipend and wellness stipend Application Requirements: To ensure consideration of your application, please submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and contact information for three professional references.
