As a Patent Agent, the role involves close collaboration with the IP team, focusing on the drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the . Patent & Trademark Office. In this role, the key responsibilities include partnering with IP attorneys to represent clients in Patent Office proceedings, patent litigation, and broader patent prosecution matters. The Patent Agent will also conduct patentability assessments and comprehensive third-party patent searches, playing a crucial role in patent diligence for mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, they will assist the IP team in patent clearance and enforcement projects, showcasing their forward-thinking, thorough, and detail-oriented approach.
To excel in this role, candidates must possess strong skills in patent application drafting and prosecution, with a solid understanding of patent database search techniques. They should also have substantive academic and professional knowledge, fostering effective collaboration within a law firm environment. Exceptional time management abilities are essential, allowing for the balancing of independent and collaborative tasks in a fast-paced setting. A mandatory requirement is an undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering. Preferred candidates will bring experience in prosecuting patent applications in mechanical and electrical engineering fields, with an additional edge in chemistry or biochemistry expertise. A minimum of 3 years of intellectual property experience in patent transactional matters, coupled with a USPTO registration number, is required, while an advanced technical degree is advantageous.
