Job Summary
Brooklyn A is seeking a Staff Attorney/Legal Researcher and Writer for its Preserving Affordable Housing Program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for social justice and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is a temporary full-time position ending June 30, 2024 with possible extension. The Staff Attorney/Legal Researcher and Writer will be responsible for researching and writing briefs, motions, client discovery, and litigation support. They will also provide legal advice and services to clients and assist with administrative tasks related to the program's work.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Research and write legal documents such as briefs, motions, and legal memoranda to support litigation and appeals.
• Provide legal advice and brief services to potential clients.
• Research and produce written collateral on the program's housing work for broader communications and advocacy efforts.
• Attend meetings and perform administrative tasks related to the work, such as timekeeping and case notes.
• Maintain a high level of organization and meet deadlines in a high volume environment.
• Collaborate with staff attorneys and clients to prepare necessary documents for litigation.
• Keep up-to-date on New York City and State housing laws and rules.

Qualifications and Skills

• Admission to the bar of the State of New York or eligibility for admission.
• Minimum 2 years' experience working in New York civil and/or Federal, or other relevant public interest litigation; housing law preferable.
• Minimum 2 years' experience working with clients in the nonprofit sector, low-income communities, community organizations, and/or coalitions.
• Excellent legal research and writing skills in English, bilingual Spanish preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage a high workload.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and organizations.
• Knowledge of New York City and State housing laws and rules.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

• Annual salary of $74,500 - $86,000 dependent on years of experience.
