Salary Information:
Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. The national salary range for this position is $70,000 - $125,000, with the same range for the NYC/Long Island/Westchester area.

Job Summary:
The Tax Senior, State and Local Tax - Unclaimed Property, is responsible for providing clients with tax and accounting advice related to unclaimed property compliance and consulting. This role requires a unique combination of tax and accounting skills, as well as project management, problem-solving, and communication abilities. The Tax Senior will also work with leadership to recommend alternate courses of action and identify different methods of complying with unclaimed property regulations. They will also be responsible for managing client expectations and deliverables, as well as participating in presentations to clients and states.

Job Duties:
- Conduct research on complex tax situations and stay up-to-date with relevant unclaimed property laws and regulations
- Assist with unclaimed property compliance by obtaining and analyzing data, preparing returns, and identifying exemptions/deferrals
- Draft memorandums and opinions on escheat issues and participate in developing planning processes and procedures
- Represent clients in unclaimed property audits and voluntary disclosures
- Utilize software and systems for data gathering and analysis, and participate in technology enhancements for the unclaimed property group
- Manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously, while maintaining relationships with internal and client personnel

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Finance
- Two or more years of prior experience in tax, financial statement auditing, or forensic accounting in a public accounting firm or in-house organization
- CPA certification, Attorney, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with experience in other tax-related software preferred
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, while meeting project deadlines
- Proven ability to manage a team and delegate work assignments
- Strong knowledge of tax standards and relevant information sources
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements
- Active involvement in relevant trade organizations and public speaking events

obtains and manipulates data from client to use in preparation of annual escheat returns
uses fsi track, bdo global portal and other systems for data gathering
imports data into fsi track and prepares returns
identifies appropriate b2b and other exemptions/deferrals
performs reconciliations on data gathered to data reported
composes responses to notices from state authorities
assists with due diligence letter processing
assists with client payment processing
provides assistance with exam support
communicates routinely with clients and up team members

unclaimed property consulting:

drafts memorandums, opinions and other documentation on various escheat issues
works with unclaimed property leadership to determines escheat planning process
participates in developing policy and procedures, addressing internal controls

actively involved in relevant trade organizations and public speaking, networking events where appropriate
