Summary: Cigna, a leading health services company, is seeking an Associate Senior Counsel to provide legal advice and counsel for a region of their US Commercial Medical Network contracting team. This is a hybrid role, with 50% of the time in office and the other 50% working from home. The successful candidate will have at least 8-10 years of experience in the health care managed care/insurance industry and medical provider contracting, and will work alongside the Network Regional Directors and other National Contracting leaders to support the US Medical Network business strategy. Responsibilities: - Provide legal advice and counsel on issues related to provider contracting, pre-litigation provider objections and disputes, and commercial contract initiatives and governance. - Act as lead counsel to regional US Medical Network contracting teams and support Regional Vice President, Regional Directors, and Provider Contracting Directors across multiple states. - Draft, review, and negotiate complex provider agreements with an understanding of business implications, risks, and potential regulatory or third party contractual considerations. - Manage provider disputes and pre-litigation matters, including counseling business clients and collaborating with key legal, compliance, and business partners. - Collaborate with internal partners to address claims or contract issues, regulatory concerns, and assist with responses to regulators, clients or customers. - Provide support for various company initiatives, such as value-based contracting, strategic alliances, and cost-savings strategies and policies. - Assist with review of provider termination notices and their compliance with state laws and the contract, and attend provider appeal hearings. - Effectively collaborate with internal partners and team members to provide interpretative and practical advice on a variety of legal and business decisions. Qualifications: - Law degree and at least 8-10 years of experience in corporate legal department or law firm, with a demonstrated background in medical provider contracting and the health care managed care/insurance industry. - JD and Bar membership required. - Strong analytical and contract writing skills, with the ability to work with a high degree of independence. - Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively. - Good judgment and willingness to take on difficult projects. - Ability to engage with a wide variety of business stakeholders to facilitate solutions. - Ability to work effectively with a variety of matrix partners and team members.
