# Counsel

Organization is looking for an experienced Counsel to join its Legal team and support staff attorneys in special projects, research, drafting of papers, board governance issues, and other assignments as directed by the General Counsel. The Counsel will work closely with the General Counsel to track ongoing special projects, litigation, compliance, and regulatory matters involved in the support of ICANN Org, ICANN Board and the ICANN Community.

## Responsibilities & Duties
- Provide high level support to ICANN’s Legal team for the following but not limited to: research, drafting of papers, board governance issues and other assignments as directed by the General Counsel.
- Responsible for tracking and reporting on the team’s projects, and communication with cross-functional Org teams as appropriate.
- Ensure that project issues are escalated as needed, and provide options for resolution and course correction to the General Counsel in a timely manner.
- Exercise independent judgement in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results and ensure projects stay on schedule.
- Understanding and assessing various issues, problems, risks and challenges which could affect the timely outcome of projects, or other items assigned to the ICANN’s Legal team.
- Coordinate project resources and work product, with ability to create and motivate the team around project deliverables.
- Drive continuous improvement of processes, policies and procedures in support of legal project management objectives, and create and facilitate legal project management training among staff attorneys and support staff.
- Maintain periodic communication and external reporting as needed/requested.
- Determine work priorities based on general direction from General Counsel.
- Other duties as assigned or requested.

## Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Professional legal-level accuracy in English writing, reading and understanding of legal documents, and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of ICANN's Multistakeholder Model, the domain name system, and the top-level domain name industry is a plus.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams and experience with project management environments is beneficial.
- Ability to manage fast shifting priorities and navigate unresolved areas of law.
- Sound business and legal judgment with ability to balance business objectives and risk, and solve legal problems in a high-output, fast moving environment.
- High-quality work product with fast turnaround times.
- Proven ability to prepare detailed reports, presentations and speeches to internal and external audiences.
- Ability to work independently.
- Curiosity and passion for the development of the Internet and domain name system.

## Education and Experience Requirements
- Juris Doctorate Degree required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience related legal research, project planning and cross-functional experience.
- Proof of License to practice law required.

## Language
- Professional legal level accuracy in English writing, and oral communication skills is required.
- Fluent written and spoken language skills in any of the other official United Nations languages is preferred.

## Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Maybe requested to travel internationally and/or domestically for ICANN Public meetings.
- Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise (or depending on circumstances work might also possibly be performed in a home office environment).

## Salary
Organization is offering a salary ranging from $100,000 to $135,000 for the position of Counsel.

Maybe requested to travel internationally and/or domestically for ICANN Public meetings.

English and any of the other official United Nations languages is preferred.

Juris Doctorate Degree required.
