Underwriting Counsel-Title Insurance - $125,000-150,000
Full-time position
Responsible for analyzing risk and making underwriting decisions
Research and interpret statutes, regulations, and court rulings
Provide guidance and support to agents and other departments
Create and present educational materials
Participate in recruitment and retention of agents
Ability to travel overnight
Experience in title insurance underwriting or claims preferred
Juris Doctorate degree and license to practice law required

Responsibilities:
- Make risk adverse, common sense underwriting decisions
- Respond to underwriting inquiries from agents in a timely manner
- Research and interpret statutes, regulations, and court rulings
- Identify issues, establish transactional facts, and apply legal principles and underwriting guidelines to reach decisions
- Provide analysis and guidance on relevant federal and state laws to agents
- Participate in the agent underwriting review process
- Support recruitment and retention of agents
- Support Claims Department with state law analysis and practices
- Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner
- Ability to travel overnight
- Create and present educational and underwriting materials
- Prepare bulletins, alerts, memos, and other agent communications

Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree
- License to practice law
- 3-5 years of experience in title insurance underwriting or claims preferred
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
- Proficiency with MS Office and email
- Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear
- Ability to work in an unsupervised, but collaborative environment
- Proficient with internet research
- Exceptional presentation skills, orally and in writing
