Summary:

. Horton, Inc. is seeking a qualified Underwriting Counsel to join their team. This position will involve analyzing risk, conducting research, interacting with agents, and making decisions on insurability of titles. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree and a license to practice law, as well as 3-5 years of experience in title insurance underwriting or claims. This is a full-time position with a salary ranging from $125,000-150,000.

Responsibilities:

- Make risk adverse, common sense underwriting decisions
- Respond to underwriting inquiries from agents in a timely manner
- Research and analyze statutes, regulations, court rulings, and opinion letters
- Identify issues and apply legal principles and underwriting guidelines to reach decisions
- Provide guidance on relevant federal and state laws and regulations to agent network
- Participate in agent underwriting review process
- Support agency with recruitment and retention of agents
- Assist Claims Department with state law analysis
- Participate in cross-functional teams
- Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner
- Ability to travel overnight
- Create and present educational materials for employees and agents
- Prepare bulletins, alerts, memoranda, and other communications for agents

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctorate degree and license to practice law
- 3-5 years of experience in title insurance underwriting or claims
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and use MS Office and email
- Proficiency with internet research
- Exceptional presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
