This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the integrity and efficiency of the bankruptcy system, while working with a national program with 21 regions and 89 field offices. About the Organization: The USTP is a litigating component of the Department of Justice (DOJ) with the mission to promote the integrity and efficiency of the bankruptcy system for the benefit of all stakeholders. With broad administrative, regulatory, and enforcement authorities in bankruptcy cases, including consumer and complex corporate reorganizations, the USTP is uniquely positioned to address national issues and combat local misconduct. Ranked in the top 30 percent of federal agency subcomponents and seventh out of 18 components within the DOJ in the 2022 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings, the USTP offers a diverse and inclusive work environment. Trustees (EOUST) in Washington, DC or one of the 89 field offices located throughout the United States. EOUST interns will work directly with the Director or Deputy Director for Field Operations on projects related to consumer and chapter 11 bankruptcy law. This may include conducting legal research, data analysis, and fact-finding, as well as assisting with speeches and presentations. Field Office Interns will assist attorneys with various tasks related to bankruptcy cases, including preparing for court appearances, developing fraud referrals, and monitoring meetings between debtors and creditors. Qualifications: Successful candidates will be second- and third-year law students with excellent research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a desire to work as part of a small team. Candidates should also be committed to fairness and integrity in the administration of the bankruptcy system. This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in bankruptcy, litigation, administrative law, policy, and legislation.
