A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a qualified Patent Agent/Tech Advisor to join their busy patent counseling & prosecution practice. The ideal candidate should have substantive industry experience and a degree in material science, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering (or a related field).

 

Job Overview:

  • Conduct prior art searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patent and scientific papers to assist patent attorneys in patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Possess superb technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Broad scientific knowledge in material science and/or chemical engineering is required, with an advanced degree being a plus.
  • Must be a registered US patent agent or eligible to sit for the USPTO registration exam.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patent and scientific papers to support patent prosecution, counseling, and litigation efforts.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions under the supervision of patent attorneys.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to understand and address their needs.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in material science, chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • Substantive industry experience in chemical engineering or material science.
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Registration as a US patent agent or eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration exam.

 

Certifications:

Registration as a US patent agent or eligibility to sit for the USPTO registration exam.

 

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate complex technical concepts.
  • Proficiency in conducting prior art searches and analyzing patent documents.
