Staff Attorney - Hotline for Older Iowans Position Overview: Iowa Legal Aid is currently seeking a Staff Attorney for their Legal Hotline program, specifically for older Iowans. The organization is dedicated to providing free legal assistance and community legal education to low-income and vulnerable individuals across all 99 Iowa counties. Key Responsibilities: - Provide free legal advice and brief services to Iowans aged 60 or older with noncriminal legal issues - Assist in preventing and resolving legal problems, avoiding victimization, and promoting independence for older Iowans - Prioritize work involving housing, domestic violence, income maintenance, health care, individual rights, and consumer issues - Work with bilingual skills to better serve diverse clients - Collaborate with other staff attorneys and legal professionals to provide a full range of legal services to low-income individuals Qualifications: - Must be a graduate of law school and licensed to practice law in Iowa - Prior experience in the practice of law or working with poverty law issues preferred - Demonstrated interest in poverty law and commitment to serving low-income individuals - Bilingual skills are encouraged - Strong communication and collaboration skills Location: Preference will be given to applicants available to work in the Des Moines or Iowa City offices.
