The Eaton Law Department is seeking a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property/Trademark/Copyright to join their team in Beachwood, Ohio, Moon Township, Pennsylvania, and/or Raleigh, North Carolina. This hybrid role offers relocation to one of these key markets and involves 10% travel.

Key responsibilities and duties for this role include:

• Providing guidance on patentability of invention disclosures
• Preparing and prosecuting patent applications
• Supervising outside counsel
• Preparing and negotiating intellectual property agreements
• Conducting right-to-use studies
• Preparing infringement opinions
• Providing effective guidance on IP risks
• Conducting IP due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures
• Managing a significant patent portfolio
• Providing guidance for IP litigation
• Conducting intellectual property law training
• Collaborating with the Eaton Law Department to enhance departmental performance

The Eaton Law Department is a global team of 55 lawyers and offers a professional environment with opportunities for career development and advancement.

Key responsibilities and duties for this role include:

• Counsel leadership and stakeholders on IP strategy
• Advise leadership on managing and directing the development, enhancement, maintenance, protection, and exploitation of Eaton's IP rights globally
• Handle a large volume of trademark matters, including strategy development, trademark clearance searches, filing and prosecuting trademark applications, monitoring and enforcing trademark rights, and managing trademark disputes and litigation
• Work with a globally dispersed team of IP teammates
• Maintain business IP portfolios and provide recommendations for protection and enforcement
• Lead trainings for the Law Department and business partners
• Manage and assess outside counsel providing IP services
• Counsel on contracts, patent prosecution/portfolio management, patent searching, infringement and freedom to operate assessments, and M&A activities

Qualifications for this role include:

• A minimum of 12 years' experience practicing intellectual property law with emphasis on trademark and copyright law
• US patent attorney/agent registration and/or qualifications
• Juris doctorate degree from an accredited university
• Bachelor's degree in electrical and/or mechanical engineering preferred
• Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
• Relocation will be offered to one of the three key markets listed for this role

Preferred qualifications for this role include:

• Law firm and corporate experience
• Litigation and/or trademark experience
• Prior engineering experience

Position criteria for this role include:

• Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to effectively advise inventors and management personnel on IP risks and strategies and portfolio management
