H1: Principal IP Counsel - Freedom to Operate Opportunity at Medtronic H2: Join our team and make a difference in healthcare innovation Overview: - Medtronic is seeking a Senior Principal IP Counsel to partner with R&D and IP Legal teams for Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) and enforcement activities. - This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and inclusive team to drive innovation and change in the healthcare industry. - The role can be based in Lafayette, CO or any other Medtronic office in the US. - A day in the life of this role includes partnering with internal stakeholders, analyzing risk assessments, collaborating with various teams, and managing outside counsel. - The ideal candidate will have a ., 5+ years of FTO and IP enforcement experience, and be licensed to practice in at least one state or the District of Columbia. Responsibilities: - Execute IP-specific strategies for FTO and enforcement activities across the entire Medtronic portfolio. - Review and interpret FTO search results and provide actionable recommendations. - Analyze third-party infringement claims and conduct patent validity assessments. - Collaborate with engineering, marketing, and business development teams to understand competition and emerging technologies. - Support new product development by performing patent clearance studies. - Build relationships with Medtronic Legal and business teams to manage IP risks. - Develop strategic relationships and manage outside counsel to meet objectives. - Monitor changes in the competitive landscape for medical devices and healthcare technology. - Serve as a resource to in-house attorneys and R&D teams for FTO activities. - Act as a strategic and inclusive IP partner. - Demonstrate technical acumen and IP risk calibration. - Communicate IP advice effectively to all levels of management.
