Key Responsibilities:

As an Attorney for the Consumer Protection and Privacy Enforcement Team, your main responsibility will be to enforce Texas’s privacy laws, including the TDPSA. This will involve advanced legal work and collaborating with Division attorneys and staff. Other key responsibilities include:

- Conducting and supervising consumer protection investigations
- Litigating civil enforcement cases, including taking and defending depositions, motion practice, arguing contested matters and trial
- Researching and analyzing complex factual and legal matters
- Monitoring privacy, cyber, and technology developments at the state and federal level
- Providing legal advice, analysis, counsel, and assistance to clients and management
- Working collaboratively with team members to develop and implement effective litigation and enforcement strategies
- Representing the Office of the Attorney General in state and federal trial and appellate courts
- Evaluating proposed and enacted federal and state statutes, rules, and court decisions
- Participating in rulemaking and responding to Texas Public Information Act requests
- Assisting in responding to legislative inquiries and drafting legislation and amendments
- Providing training to less experienced staff
- Maintaining knowledge of legal principles and practices relevant to data privacy
- Participating in community outreach activities
- Performing related work as assigned

Qualifications:

- Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (.)
- Licensure: Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas
- Experience: Three years of full-time experience working in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation
- Skills: Legal research, writing, and analysis; conducting investigations; mediation and negotiation; developing and implementing effective and efficient strategies; critical thinking; use of technology
- Abilities: Drafting legal documents, performing legal research, interpreting and applying laws, reviewing the work of others, training and mentoring, working independently and collaboratively, providing excellent customer service
- Certifications (preferred): Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT), Certified Data Privacy Professional (CDPP)
