The Senior Counsel position at FINCA Impact Finance is an exciting opportunity for an experienced legal professional to make a difference in the world of financial inclusion. As part of the FIF global legal team, the Senior Counsel will play a critical role in advising on legal matters and providing strategic solutions to support the organization's mission.

The Senior Counsel will work closely with senior management and the Board of Directors of FIF entities around the world, providing comprehensive legal advice and managing overall legal risk. This includes staying up-to-date on laws and regulations in the US and abroad, overseeing relationships with banking and microfinance regulators, and negotiating and reviewing contracts and agreements. The Senior Counsel will also play a key role in the selection, onboarding, and evaluation of new attorneys and legal staff, as well as coordinating and supervising the work of other attorneys within the global legal team.

To excel in this role, candidates should have a law degree from a recognized US institution and be admitted to the practice of law in the District of Columbia. They should also have at least 10 years of relevant experience in private practice or as in-house counsel, with international experience and a background in microfinance and/or banking preferred. Additionally, experience in other areas of law such as labor and employment, data protection, tax, litigation, and contracts is desirable. The ideal candidate will also possess professionalism, high ethical standards, and fluency in English, with fluency in Russian, French, or Arabic being desirable.

This position requires the ability to travel via economy class when necessary. Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Counsel will have a wide range of responsibilities and will play a critical role in providing legal advice and strategic solutions to support FINCA's mission of financial inclusion. Key responsibilities include:

Proactively providing legal advice and practical solutions to managers and staff to identify and mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Advising organization executives and functional heads on the legal aspects of projects and activities within their assigned areas.
Staying up-to-date on laws and regulations applicable to FIF's operations in the US and abroad, and communicating changes to relevant stakeholders.
Overseeing relationships with banking and microfinance regulators.
Offering strategic guidance to FIF entities on legal and contractual rights and obligations, and negotiating and reviewing contracts and agreements.
Supporting the General Counsel in the selection, onboarding, and evaluation of new attorneys and legal staff.
Coordinating and supervising the work of other attorneys and legal staff within the global legal team.
Providing advice on labor and employment laws and obligations, including terminations, investigations, and grievance procedures.
Advising on matters concerning corporate governance of FIF entities.
Overseeing decisions of corporate governance bodies of FIF subsidiaries.

Qualifications:

To be considered for the Senior Counsel position, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

Law degree from a recognized US institution.
Admission to the practice of law in the District of Columbia.

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

At least 10 years of relevant experience in private practice or as in-house counsel.
International experience.
Experience in microfinance and/or banking preferred.
Experience in other areas of law desirable (labor and employment, data protection, tax, litigation, contracts, etc.).

Knowledge and Skills:

Candidates should possess the following knowledge and skills:

Professionalism and high ethical standards.

Language Skills:

Fluency in English is required, with fluency in Russian, French, or Arabic being desirable.

Travel Ability:

The Senior Counsel will be required to travel via economy class when necessary.
