The Deputy Town Attorney position for a government entity in Parker, CO is seeking a highly qualified attorney with at least 10 years of experience in municipal law. The position offers a competitive salary range of $137,387 - $206,081 per year and requires a Juris doctorate from an ABA-accredited . law school.
Reporting to the Town Attorney, the Deputy Town Attorney will handle a diverse range of legal matters related to municipal law, including contracts, real property, constitutional law, zoning and land use, liquor licensing, taxation, open records, election law, and more. This position may also be responsible for acting on behalf of the Town Attorney in their absence.
In addition to the general responsibilities of the position, the Deputy Town Attorney may also be designated as the legal advisor for land-use issues, with a preference for experience in municipal land development and zoning and subdivision issues. They may also serve as the legal advisor for human resources, with a focus on employment laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as personnel policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in municipal law, with at least five years of experience specifically in this area. They must also be a licensed attorney in good standing with the Bar of the State of Colorado and have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice to Town Council, boards and commissions, and Town departments
- Supervise assigned staff and provide staff assistance to the Town Attorney
- Represent the Town in administrative and quasi-judicial proceedings
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents such as ordinances, resolutions, and contracts
- Manage workload and ensure compliance with Town policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations
- Attend offsite meetings and travel to various locations within and outside of Parker
- Participate in the development and administration of the Town Attorney's Office work plan
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris doctorate from an ABA-accredited . law school
- 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with at least 5 years in municipal law
- Licensed attorney in good standing with the Bar of the State of Colorado
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in land-use and/or human resources law
