Staff Attorney Position (2 Job Openings) in Housing Unit at Neighborhood-Based Eviction Defense Project in Greater Boston Legal Services

Responsibilities:
- Represent tenants in Housing Court in Chelsea and Boston
- Staff Lawyer for the Day programs in court
- Staff housing clinics in several locations in Chelsea
- Advise tenants and community partners on legal housing matters
- Conduct community trainings
- Maintain regular communications with various interested groups and agencies
- Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required

Qualifications:
- Admission to, or comity with, the Massachusetts Bar, or those sitting for July 2024 Bar Exam
- 0 to 5 years of experience preferred
- Prior housing law and/or trial experience preferred
- Fluency in Spanish strongly desired
- Attorneys with lived experience of displacement or gentrification are encouraged to apply

Salary:
- Based on a union scale with starting salary of $72,000 for an attorney with no experience
- Up to $79,500 for an attorney with 5 years of experience

We are seeking two Staff Attorneys to join our Housing Unit as part of our new Neighborhood-Based Eviction Defense Project in partnership with the City of Chelsea. This is a great opportunity to have a direct impact on our community and work alongside local organizations and agencies to develop innovative solutions to housing issues.

As a Staff Attorney, you will represent tenants in Housing Court in Chelsea and Boston, as well as staff Lawyer for the Day programs in court and housing clinics in several locations in Chelsea. You will also advise tenants and community partners on legal housing matters and conduct community trainings. We are looking for candidates who are admitted to, or have comity with, the Massachusetts Bar, or will be taking the July 2024 Bar Exam. Prior experience in housing law and/or trial experience is preferred, and fluency in Spanish is strongly desired. We also encourage attorneys with lived experience of displacement or gentrification to apply.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects within the Housing Unit, including support for tenants in public and subsidized housing, preservation of affordable housing, shelter advocacy, and impact litigation.
