Job Title: Chief Attorney – Montgomery County Office
Department: Legal Department

Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in legal services and/or legal management required, 7+ years preferred
- Appellate experience, involvement in the community, and leadership experience preferred

Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision and Development
- Provide positive leadership, guidance, and supervision to a team of 25 staff
- Guide professional development and conduct case reviews for staff
- Lead hiring efforts and build a cohesive, supportive team
- Ensure effective legal assistance is provided to low-income clients in a zealous and compassionate manner
- Conduct impactful advocacy to address systemic issues affecting individuals and communities in poverty

Strategy and Leadership
- Participate in statewide and national task forces and advocacy efforts
- Develop relationships and knowledge of the communities served
- Engage community leaders and cultivate relationships with the judiciary and private bar
- Contribute to MLA's strategic plan and ensure administrative and regulatory requirements are met
- Assist with resource development efforts, including identifying possible funding sources and making presentations to funders
- Address client grievances

Qualifications:
- Law degree and admission to the Maryland Bar
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- 7+ years of experience in legal services and/or legal management
- Command of technology and time management/organizational skills
- Supervision skills and well-developed legal issue spotting
- Demonstrated commitment to working with low-income populations and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion

Schedule, Travel, Salary and Benefits:
- Salary range of $105,000 - $125,000 annually
