A Fortune 100 insurance company, Nationwide, is seeking a Senior Trial Attorney to join their Legal team in New Jersey. This is a full-time position with no billable hours and a competitive salary. The ideal candidate will have experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation, with a preference for experience in Bodily Injury Commercial, Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, Complex Commercial, Premises Liability, Products Liability, Property Damage, Trucking Defense, Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist, and Wrongful Death. The Senior Trial Attorney will represent clients independently as lead counsel and as part of a larger team, with a caseload that includes a mix of cases varying in complexity, severity, product lines, and specialized concentrations. The role requires strong analytical skills, legal acumen, and the ability to maintain a highly productive case volume while also staying updated on changes in the legal and insurance industries. The Senior Trial Attorney will report to the Managing Trial Attorney and will serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and staff, as well as maintaining strong relationships with key associates within the Office of the Chief Legal Officer, claims partners, and colleagues within the legal and insurance industries. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, an active license in the state of New Jersey, and at least eight years of relevant civil litigation experience. Other key skills and abilities include strong written and verbal communication skills, negotiation skills, analytical skills, and the ability to adapt to changes in the law and technology. This position may require occasional overnight travel and extended hours to meet the demands of the profession.

Senior Trial Attorney Job Responsibilities:

- Independently represent clients under both commercial and personal lines insurance policies as lead counsel and as part of a larger team.
- Maintain a highly productive case volume and stay updated on changes in the legal and insurance industries.
- Communicate effectively with clients, claims partners, and colleagues.
- Serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and staff, providing guidance, training, and serving as a role model.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates within the Office of the Chief Legal Officer, claims partners, and colleagues within the legal and insurance industries.
- Provide factually, legally, and analytically sound opinions on case valuations.
- Proactively identify, understand, and meet client, claims, and internal communication expectations.
- Utilize technology and work collaboratively with support staff to ensure efficient case management.
- Stay updated on changes to the law, technology, and procedural requirements in the assigned jurisdiction(s).
- Continuously develop and improve subject matter expertise and trial advocacy skills.
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Senior Trial Attorney Job Requirements:

- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license in the state of New Jersey.
- At least eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly collaborative and able to work with staff and other attorneys on-site and remotely.
- Significant negotiation skills.
