Summary:

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in Texas is seeking environmental litigators for its Environmental Protection Division. This division is responsible for prosecuting environmental and natural resource violations, defending cases involving the state's natural resources, and defending public utility and environmental orders. Position Functions:

- Provides legal advice, counsel, and assistance
- Represents the State's interest in civil and criminal matters
- Prepares legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and memoranda
- Conducts legal research and investigations and reports findings and conclusions
- Participates in administrative and evidentiary hearings and in the discovery process
- Represents the OAG in state and federal district and appellate courts
- Analyzes factual and legal issues and develops evidence
- Prepares cases for trial
- Maintains relevant knowledge
- Attends work regularly
- Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive information
- Complies with agency policies and procedures

Qualifications:

- Assistant Attorney General (AAG) III:

- Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree
- Experience: Two years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in civil litigation or environmental law (or closely related fields)
- Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas
- Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings; and of state and federal laws, regulations, and rules
- Skilled in legal research, writing, and analysis; conducting investigations; mediation and negotiations; using reasoning and logic; identifying and solving complex problems; and using a computer and applicable software
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and effective decision making
- Ability to prepare legal documents, conduct research, interpret and apply laws, summarize findings, prepare cases for trial, and conduct hearings
- Ability to present cases at trial
- Ability to receive and respond positively to feedback
- Ability to work cooperatively in a professional office environment
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with FLSA
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 20%

- Assistant Attorney General IV: All of the above qualifications for an AAG III, PLUS:

- Experience: One additional year of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in civil litigation or environmental law (or closely related fields)

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience: Four years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney.
