# Job Title: Judiciary Clerk ## Overview The Maryland Judiciary is looking for an experienced Judicial Clerk to join their team in Annapolis, Maryland. The Judicial Clerk will be responsible for case processing duties and responsibilities, entering data into the Maryland District Court Criminal/Traffic system, providing the public with information regarding Criminal/Traffic cases and court procedures, and assisting with customer service. ## Job Description The Judiciary Clerk will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: - Processing motions, postponements, considerations, speedy trial, guilty pleas, restitution hearings, sentencings, violations of probations, and removal of cases from stet status - Verifying arrest warrants throughout the day and scanning documents into the appropriate area of the file - Data entry of appearances, writs, name changes and addresses, and requests for speedy trial or other data entry back logs - Processing appeals, jury trials, and mail to appropriate parties - Processing copies to various agencies and parties - Assisting with customer service by answering phones - Recalling bench warrants, issuing writs, and setting trial dates - Updating Officer court schedules - Notifying all parties on cases of last-minute rulings made on motions received in cases where trial is scheduled within the next few days ## Education and Experience In order to be considered for this position, applicants must have a High School diploma (or GED equivalent) and one (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services. A Bachelor's Degree may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience. ## Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In order to be successful in this role, the Judicial Clerk must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: - General office practices, procedures, and equipment - Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary - Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division - Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently - Typing on a personal computer - Accuracy and attention to detail - Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc. - Maintain and use detailed filing system as well as computer programs - Exercise tact and understanding in stressful situations - Interpret and follow complex directions - Perform all essential functions of the position ## Salary and Benefits The Maryland Judiciary offers a generous benefit package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, tuition assistance, continuing education programs, employee assistance programs, and State Retirement and Pension plans. Telework, up to 2 days per week, may also be available. Telework eligibility is based on job functions and the approval of the Administrative Head.
