Staff Attorney Position – Longview at Northwest Justice Project: In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of low-income individuals and families by providing high-quality legal advocacy. As a member of our team, you will work collaboratively with other attorneys and community partners to combat injustice, strengthen communities, and protect human dignity. We are looking for an experienced attorney who is committed to our mission and values, and who has a desire to grow in the areas of equity and inclusion. Responsibilities: - Provide day-to-day legal assistance and direct representation to eligible clients referred to the Longview office in all relevant forums, including state, federal, administrative agencies, and appellate courts. - Use strategic methods and a broad range of advocacy tools to address high priority client needs, with a focus on the legal needs of marginalized communities such as immigrants, youth, seniors, and disabled persons. - Develop collaborative working relationships with a statewide network of advocates and participate in advocacy task forces or work groups to address systemic issues affecting low-income individuals and communities in Washington. - Engage with client communities and participate in legal education events for client groups, social and human services providers, justice system stakeholders, and serve as a resource to other advocates on areas of expertise. - Utilize NJP's case management and timekeeping systems and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and reporting needs. - Identify and develop online resources for use by attorneys and unrepresented litigants on matters within areas of expertise. - Support the work of NJP partners, including the local volunteer lawyer program, private attorneys, programs serving the needs of unrepresented litigants, and other legal aid providers. - Collaborate with other units at NJP to support our values and mission to serve low-income clients throughout Washington State. Qualifications: - Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association, the ability to acquire membership through admission by motion, or the ability to take the next Washington bar exam. - Prior experience in civil litigation, with a focus on issues impacting low-income individuals in Washington. - Experience in family law, public benefits law, employment law, or civil rights law is a plus. - Experience in affirmative litigation in state or federal court and addressing systemic issues is preferred. - Significant civil legal aid and related advocacy experience is preferred. - Cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with low-income client communities, communities of color, limited English speakers, and persons with disabilities. - Willingness to work in Longview and travel throughout Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties. - Demonstrated experience and/or connection to NJP's client communities is preferred. Salary and Benefits: - Starting salary based on years of experience, with an annual salary range of $73,142 to $133,712. - Compensation for those who are regularly asked to use a language other than English in their work. - Comprehensive benefits package, including 100% paid employee health premiums and significant premium shares for family health premiums. - Generous time off.
