Salary: National Range: $70,000 - $125,000, NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $70,000 - $125,000 Responsibilities: Apply industry knowledge and experience to clients by assisting in providing tax advice, recommending alternate courses of action, and identifying methods of complying with tax regulations Conduct research and analyze tax authorities to understand potential tax issues and identify potential risks Ensure clients comply with tax regulations while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens Utilize tax compliance knowledge to accurately and efficiently prepare tax returns and price services Develop tax consulting strategies to maximize client benefits and decrease taxes Interact and collaborate with other state tax specialists when applicable Review tax returns and identify basic, complex, and advanced issues Communicate with clients to gather information and prepare taxability matrices for client transactions Handle routine questions from federal or state agencies Utilize tax-related software and train staff on current software tools Develop an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues and opportunities in one or more areas of taxation Review basic tax provisions and apply firm policies and standards regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48 Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to reduce taxes or expenses for clients Educate and advise professionals on state and local tax law and assist with their professional development Mentor and assist in the professional development of STS SALT Associates Supervise work assignments and provide performance feedback for STS SALT Associates Qualifications: Bachelors degree required, Masters degree in Accounting/Taxation or . preferred Two (2) or more years state and local/multistate experience required CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills Excellent analytical and research skills Solid organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines Ability to work independently or within a group environment and manage multiple tasks Strong relationship building skills with internal and client personnel Advanced knowledge of all tax return forms Excellent people development and delegation skills Ability to effectively represent the client before any tax authority Understanding of tax compliance and appropriate application of tax standards Working knowledge of tax research databases and other tax-related software Decision-making skills and ability to create written tax advice Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements Company Overview: BDO is a leading accounting and advisory organization with a global reach, providing assurance, tax, and advisory services for a diverse range of clients in over 160 countries.
