A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking an Electric Regulatory Associate Attorney with 5+ years of experience. The ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge of the Federal Power Act, PURPA, and other federal energy laws. They should also possess expertise in FERC cost-of-service ratemaking, open access transmission, market-based rate authorizations, and wholesale energy market rules. Strong analytical research and writing skills, exceptional communication skills, and experience before state utility commissions or federal and state courts on energy regulatory matters are preferred.

 

Duties:

  • Apply foundational knowledge of the Federal Power Act and other federal energy laws to regulatory matters.
  • Interpret and apply FERC cost-of-service ratemaking policies and practices.
  • Advise on open access transmission service and interconnection matters.
  • Assist with market-based rate authorizations and compliance.
  • Research and analyze wholesale energy market rules, capacity, and ancillary services.
  • Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, and other documents for regulatory proceedings.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and regulatory authorities.
  • Represent clients before state utility commissions and federal/state courts on energy regulatory matters.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar and eligibility to practice law in Washington, DC.
  • 5+ years of electric regulatory experience.
  • Knowledge of the Federal Power Act, PURPA, and federal energy laws.
  • Experience with FERC cost-of-service ratemaking, open access transmission, and market-based rates.
  • Strong analytical research and writing skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the State Bar and eligibility to practice law in Washington, DC.

 

Skills:
