The successful candidate must be admitted to the New York State (NYS) Bar and have three to five years of legal experience. Law Graduates with strong writing backgrounds may be considered. Trial experience is preferred. Commitment to serving indigent community members and excellent written and verbal advocacy, legal research, problem solving and organizational skills are essential. Bilingual or multilingual a plus.

As a Staff Attorney, you will provide direct and comprehensive legal services to eligible clients including advice, negotiation, motion practice, discovery and litigation. You will offer holistic services to clients with financial and other hardships that could result in loss of housing. You will appear in the City, Town, and Village Courts across our region in eviction and warranty of habitability cases. You will engage in education and outreach efforts targeting community members, advocates and service providers. You will comply with all Legal Services Corporation (LSC) regulations, LASMNY policies and procedures and grant-based reporting requirements.

Job Qualifications

• Admitted to the NYS Bar
• Three to five years of legal experience preferred
• Commitment to serving indigent community members
• Excellent written and verbal advocacy, legal research, problem solving and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently, efficiently and collaboratively with individuals both within and outside LASMNY
• Bilingual or multilingual a plus
