Essential Functions:

- Provide comprehensive legal services to low-income Texans and families in various practice areas, including public benefits, housing, consumer rights, crime victims’ rights, family law, and veterans’ benefits.
- Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards as a member of the State Bar and adhere to the American Bar Association Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid.
- Conduct community education to raise awareness about legal rights and resources.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations, grant requirements, and internal operating and personnel policies.
- Develop grants and provide financial and program reporting as requested.
- Cultivate working relationships with other organizations and agencies to advance programmatic and organizational goals.
- Provide all information needed/requested for TLSC-reporting in a prompt manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

- . Degree and current law license by the Supreme Court of Texas.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a licensed attorney.
- Written and verbal fluency in Spanish and/or Vietnamese preferred.
- High-level organizational skills.

The Staff Attorney, Floating Generalist position at Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) is a full-time, grant-funded role that offers exposure to various practice areas and allows for the development of a well-rounded skill set. The attorney in this position will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal services to low-income Texans and families, with a diverse caseload covering public benefits, housing, consumer rights, crime victims’ rights, family law, and veterans’ benefits.

As a member of the State Bar and adhering to the American Bar Association Standards for the Provision of Civil Legal Aid, the Staff Attorney is expected to maintain the highest ethical and professional standards. They must also embrace and support TLSC’s overall mission and comply with all grant requirements, regulations, standards, policies, and confidentiality requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide high-quality legal advice, assistance, and referrals to eligible clients and client organizations in a compassionate, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed manner.
- Conduct research and analysis, factual investigations, communicate with third parties, make agency referrals, and draft and file legal documents.
- Conduct community education to raise awareness about legal rights and resources.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations, grant requirements, and internal operating and personnel policies.
- Develop grants and provide financial and program reporting as requested.
