Description
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Attorney General to join the General Litigation Division (GLD) in Austin, Texas. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of cases, ranging from individual civil rights claims to complex institutional reform litigation, class actions, and public policy matters. The GLD has a heavy emphasis on constitutional and civil rights litigation, employment litigation, and other matters that impact the lives of Texans.

Responsibilities
As an Assistant Attorney General, you will represent state agencies and officials in defense of lawsuits involving civil rights, retaliation, employment, constitutionality of state statutes, and other matters in state and federal court. You will also handle other proceedings, such as lawsuits brought on behalf of the State and its agencies and officers to protect Texas's sovereign and legal rights. Specific responsibilities include:

- Conducting investigations, performing legal research, and preparing complex motions, pleadings, briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents
- Preparing and trying cases in state and federal courts
- Providing legal advice and counsel to state agencies
- Maintaining excellent client service and collaborating with other attorneys and staff
- Attending work regularly and complying with agency policies and procedures
- Maintaining relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:

Assistant Attorney General IV:
- Graduation from an accredited law school with a .
- Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in Civil Litigation
- Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas
- Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- Knowledge of laws and legal principles and practices relevant to the General Litigation Division
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and effective decision making
- Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location and perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 20%

Assistant Attorney General V:
- All of the above qualifications PLUS:
- Minimum of 4 years of full-time experience in Civil Litigation

Preferred Qualifications
- Exceptional academic credentials
- Law Review and/or post-graduation judicial clerkship
- Tried at least two jury trials to a verdict in state and/or federal district court
- 2 years of litigation experience in civil rights, constitutional law, employment law, education law, and/or health care law (for IV)
- 3 years of litigation experience in civil rights, constitutional law, employment law, education law, and/or health care law (for V)
