CVLAP is a statewide program that provides legal representation and advocacy to victims of crime, with a focus on domestic violence and elder abuse survivors. The Staff Attorney will work in collaboration with Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, Legal Aid of Western Michigan, Legal Services of South Central Michigan, Legal Services of Northern Michigan, and Lakeshore Legal Aid to provide outreach and support to those in need. PROGRAM OVERVIEW: - CVLAP is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), which works to advance the safety, independence, and economic stability of those affected by poverty, racism, and other oppressive systems. - MAP has provided civil legal aid to those in need for over 50 years. - MAP's Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) has five legal aid offices in south and central Michigan, with a focus on homelessness prevention, domestic violence and elder abuse prevention, and assistance with accessing healthcare, food, and needs-based income programs. - In addition to LSSCM, MAP manages six statewide programs serving immigrant communities (Michigan Immigrant Rights Center), vulnerable older adults (Michigan Elder Justice Initiative), migrant and seasonal farmworkers (Farmworker Legal Services), and providing research and training support to legal aid advocates (Michigan Poverty Law Program) and self-represented litigants (Michigan Legal Help Program). - Visit and for more information about MAP and their programs. QUALIFICATIONS: - Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Michigan, qualified to be admitted by waiver, or able to take the next Michigan bar exam. - Through lived or learned experience, applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals and underserved populations. - Experience with issues impacting domestic violence or elder abuse survivors is a plus. SALARY AND BENEFITS: - Salary ranges from $60,000, depending on experience. - MAP offers a generous benefits package, including life, short and long-term disability, health, vision, dental, and flexible spending accounts. - Applicants who do not require health benefits have the option to receive an annual $1,500 payout in addition to their base salary. - MAP also has a generous leave policy, allowing staff to accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation in the first year and 13 paid holidays. - A 401K retirement plan with employer match is available for eligible staff after 6 months of employment. - MAP is a qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
