Summary: The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for the Crime Victim Services Division. This position provides legal advice and representation for the State of Texas in civil and criminal matters related to victim services. Salary Information: - Assistant Attorney General I: $6, - $8, per month (pay basis) - Assistant Attorney General II: One year of experience in victim services law (or closely related fields) Job Title: - Assistant Attorney General I-II Experience Information: - Assistant Attorney General I: Juris Doctor degree and licensed attorney in Texas - Assistant Attorney General II: One year of experience as a licensed attorney in victim services law (or closely related fields) Job Description: - Provide legal advice, counsel, and assistance for the State of Texas in civil and criminal matters related to victim services - Review, evaluate, and render legal opinions and prepare legal documentation - Assist in drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration - May train others - Perform independent investigations, including evaluating evidence and interviewing victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers - Research legal matters and interpret and apply laws - Assist with management and operation of the legal section of the Crime Victim Services Division - Perform case reviews and legal analysis for third party litigation - Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions - Attend work regularly and ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information - Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity Qualifications: - Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school - Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas - Knowledge of laws, legal principles, and practices relevant to victim matters - Strong oral and written communication skills - Proficient in legal research and negotiations - Skilled in using a computer for word processing and data entry/retrieval - Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines - Sound judgement and effective decision making skills - Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback - Excellent customer service skills - Personal transportation for business-related travel - Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA - Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs. - Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5% To Apply: To apply for this position, electronic applications can be submitted through either CAPPS Recruit or Work in Texas.
