This position is ideal for recent law school graduates or licensed attorneys who are awaiting bar exam results. The selected applicant will receive hands-on training in administrative law and legal research and writing, specifically in the area of open records. As the State's law firm, the OAG provides exemplary legal representation in diverse areas of law. As a Research Specialist III, you will work directly with a senior attorney to gain experience in interpreting and applying the Public Information Act. This includes researching and interpreting laws governing public access to government information, reviewing and analyzing requests for rulings, and drafting legal opinions. You will also have the opportunity to educate citizens and public servants about their rights and obligations under the Public Information Act, participate in public speaking events, and assist in drafting legislation. Upon successful completion of one year, this position is eligible for promotion to an Assistant Attorney General I and a retention bonus contract. Essential functions of this position include researching, drafting, editing, and revising informal opinions and rulings, memoranda, correspondence, and publications. The selected candidate must have a . from an accredited law school and have taken the Texas state bar exam. Additionally, they should have knowledge of laws and legal principles and practices, as well as strong computer skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with others in a professional office environment.
