Iowa Legal Aid is currently recruiting for Staff Attorneys at multiple regional offices, including Davenport, Mason City, Ottumwa, and Waterloo. As a Staff Attorney, you will have the opportunity to provide free legal assistance and community legal education to those in need, bringing hope, dignity, and justice to vulnerable Iowans. Iowa Legal Aid: Bringing Change and Hope Since 1977 Founded in 1977, Iowa Legal Aid has been serving clients in all 99 Iowa counties for over 40 years. With offices in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City, Ottumwa, Sioux City, and Waterloo, Iowa Legal Aid is dedicated to providing access to justice for those who cannot afford legal representation. Through free legal assistance and community legal education, Iowa Legal Aid strives to bring change and hope to low-income and other vulnerable Iowans. Diverse Practice and Impact Advocacy As a Staff Attorney at Iowa Legal Aid, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of legal issues, including housing, domestic violence, income maintenance, health care, individual rights, and consumer issues. From providing advice and brief services to full representation before administrative agencies and state and federal courts, you will play a crucial role in securing our clients' most essential needs. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage in impact advocacy, working to change systems and achieve justice for low-income individuals and families. Qualifications and Requirements To be considered for the Staff Attorney position, applicants must be law school graduates licensed to practice law in Iowa, eligible for admission on motion, or available for the next scheduled bar examination. Prior legal experience is preferred, and a demonstrated interest in poverty law is required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collegial environment are also necessary. Individuals with Spanish or other language skills are encouraged to apply. Competitive Salary and Benefits Iowa Legal Aid offers a competitive salary and benefits package for its employees. The current entry-level salary is $54,000, with non-entry level salaries dependent on experience.
