Currently, Nationwide is seeking a Sr. Trial Attorney to join their team in Pennsylvania, with a focus on the Pennsylvania Trial Team.

The ideal candidate for this position will have prior insurance defense experience in one or more of the following areas: personal lines bodily injury (auto/UM); home-owners liability; first party property; subrogation; commercial premises liability; commercial auto. The successful candidate should also have proficiency with case management software and Microsoft products, as well as the ability to work in a paperless environment. This role will involve handling cases from start to finish, including pre-suit through trial, and timely reporting to clients and claims customers is a must. The position does not have a billing requirement and all equipment will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

- Independently and effectively utilize trial advocacy skills as lead counsel or part of a team, demonstrating efficiency, proactive case management, and high-quality work product in accordance with Nationwide Trial Division (NTD) standard methodology guidelines and client expectations.
- Requires minimal managerial oversight and guidance from the Managing Trial Attorney and NTD Leadership in all aspects of core duties and job responsibilities.
- Utilize technology and work collaboratively with support staff to ensure efficient case management.
- Stay up-to-date on changes in the law, technology, and other aspects of the legal and insurance industries that may impact liability and recovery litigation strategies.
- Possess and consistently perform with subject matter expertise and trial advocacy skills required for all NTD concentrations.
- Provide factually, legally, and analytically sound opinions on case valuations and communicate them promptly and effectively to clients and claims.
- Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates within the Office of the Chief Legal Officer and claims partners, as well as colleagues within the legal and insurance industries in the assigned jurisdiction(s).
- Utilize relationships to enhance NTD's reputation and expand case referral opportunities within the company.
- Communicate effectively and proactively, meeting client, claims, and internal NTD communication expectations.
- Serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and NTD staff, providing guidance and training, and serving as a role model in terms of engagement, coaching and feedback, efficiency, attitude, and collaboration.
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

The Sr. Trial Attorney will report to the Managing Trial Attorney and must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and an active license in the state where the position is located. The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation. Strong written and verbal communication skills, negotiation skills, and the ability to process information efficiently and effectively are essential for this role. The successful candidate must also be resourceful, a creative problem solver, and have a solid understanding of basic software and use of same. Strong time management and organization skills, as well as decision-making abilities are also necessary. Leadership skills, including motivating, problem-solving, and business development, are also critical for this role. The candidate must also adhere to all corporate and NTD policies and procedures.

Working conditions for this position may include working from home, frequent travel, occasional overnight travel, and extended hours to meet the demands of the profession. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required. Due to the fiduciary accountabilities of this job, a valid credit check and/or background check will be required as part of the selection process.
