A law firm is seeking a DSSP Incident Response Associate Attorney for its Washington, DC, office.

Job Overview:

The DSSP Incident Response Associate Attorney will be responsible for proactive and reactive data protection matters, including advising on data security incidents, regulatory investigations, and compliance with contractual and legal security obligations. Additionally, the associate will assist with privacy issues and advise clients on cybersecurity laws, incident notification obligations, regulatory investigations defense, consumer disclosures, internal policies, technology contracts, and M&A cybersecurity matters.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on compliance with cybersecurity laws
  • Handle federal, state, and international data security incident notifications
  • Defend regulatory investigations related to security
  • Prepare public-facing consumer disclosures and internal company policies
  • Draft, revise, and negotiate data and technology contracts
  • Advise M&A deal teams and colleagues on cybersecurity matters
  • Assist the team with privacy issues as needed

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of legal experience
  • Foundational knowledge of federal, state, and foreign cybersecurity laws
  • Motivation to learn and understand technology and forensic investigations
  • Experience liaising with claims counsel, forensic experts, and vendors preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational/project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to continued development in cybersecurity and data privacy laws
  • Admission to the DC Bar

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Skills:

  • Legal experience in cybersecurity counseling and incident response
  • Proficiency in drafting materials in business-friendly language
