Summary:
. Horton, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified Underwriting Counsel for their title insurance division. This role involves making risk adverse decisions, analyzing titles, and providing guidance on relevant legal and compliance issues. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree and a license to practice law, as well as 3-5 years of experience in title insurance underwriting or claims. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $125,000-150,000 and an application deadline of July 9, 2024.

Key Responsibilities:
• Make risk adverse, common sense underwriting decisions
• Research and interpret laws and regulations related to title insurance
• Communicate changes in laws and regulations to agents
• Participate in agent underwriting reviews and support recruitment and retention efforts
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Conduct business ethically and professionally
• Ability to travel overnight
• Create educational materials for employees and agents
• Prepare communication materials for agents

Qualifications:
• Juris Doctorate degree and license to practice law
• 3-5 years of experience in title insurance underwriting or claims
• Proficiency with MS Office and email
• Ability to sit for majority of workday and perform physical tasks as needed
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Strong presentation skills

• respond in a timely manner, to underwriting inquiries from agents
• research, analyze, and interpret statutes, regulations and opinions, court rulings by utilizing professional legal and compliance publications
• identify issues, establish transactional facts, apply legal principles and underwriting guidelines to reach a timely decision
• provide analysis and guidance on relevant federal and state statutes and regulations, court rulings, opinion letters to the agent network
• research/update new/changing laws/statute/regulations that could affect the risk of the company and communicate those effectively to agents

• participate in the agent underwriting review process
• support agency with recruitment process and retention of agents
• support claims department with state law analysis and state practices
• participate on cross-functional teams
• conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
• ability to travel overnight
• responsible for creation and presentation of educational and underwriting materials for employees and agents
• prepare bulletins, alerts, memoranda, and other agent communications
