Responsibilities:

- Identify, develop, and implement legislative and policy reform strategies at federal, state, and local levels
- Conduct policy research in areas of criminal justice, economic justice, education, and political participation
- Monitor and respond to civil rights issues in proposed legislation or agency action
- Secure and prepare opportunities for LDF to influence legislation and policy at federal level
- Draft and deliver legislative testimony at federal, state, and local levels
- Participate in briefings with elected officials and agency officials on LDF's priorities
- Build and participate in national coalitions and partnerships to advance political participation, education, economic justice, and criminal justice
- Work collaboratively with LDF's attorneys, organizers, and multidisciplinary teams to advance reforms
- Write and publish policy briefs, fact sheets, reports, and other documents to educate legislators, stakeholders, and the public
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor degree (2010) or other advanced degree preferred
- 7+ years of experience in policy reform or advocacy at federal, state, or local level
- Member of DC Bar or eligible to waive in
- Excellent research, writing, and public speaking skills
- Commitment to civil rights and racial justice
- Experience in Fair Housing and Lending or Education considered a plus
- Ability to develop and manage relationships and partnerships with coalitions, community members, and public officials
- Strategic thinking and planning skills
- Ability to work independently and on teams
- Ability to travel
