# TRLA Fellowships

TRLA is a host for post-graduate fellowships for students interested in working in rural or border placement. Applicants should seek fellowships or other public interest funding through their school or other external sources as TRLA fellowship funds are limited.

## Prerequisites

In order to be eligible for a TRLA fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Spanish fluency
- Interest in rural or border placement

## Application Process

TRLA accepts applications for unpaid clerkships and internships year-round. Applicants should provide a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and references. The cover letter should address one or more of the following topics:

- Describe a significant legal or social justice experience and its impact on your plan to pursue public interest law.
- Describe some of the unique challenges you think or know clients in our service area may experience in rural or border areas and how an agency like TRLA can help.
- Describe any connection, personal or professional, to our service area and the client populations we serve.

Applicants should also provide the following information:

- Preferred start date
- Academic status
- Law school and approximate graduation date
- Undergraduate school and approximate graduation date
- Spanish language proficiency
- Preferred TRLA office
- Areas of interest
- Tasks of interest
- How the applicant heard about TRLA
- Any family relations to TRLA employees

## Compensation

TRLA internships and clerkships are unpaid. TRLA has limited summer fellowship funding available for students placed in rural offices.
