Staff Attorney – West Chester (Chester County), PA Job Announcement (Posted Jan. 29, 2024) Legal Aid of Southeastern PA (“LASP”) is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide civil legal services in its West Chester Office in Chester County. This is a full-time position, with the option to work remotely. LASP serves individuals with low incomes in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, and provides a range of legal services in areas such as landlord and tenant cases, family law, bankruptcy, consumer law, expungements, and public benefits. The successful candidate will have a passion for public interest law and serving vulnerable populations, as well as strong written and oral advocacy skills. Responsibilities: • Interviewing clients, determining eligibility for services, and investigating facts • Conducting legal research and interpreting laws and regulations • Providing advice and counsel to clients • Preparing legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, motions, and correspondence • Developing case strategy and arguments for trials and hearings • Representing clients in court and before administrative agencies • Reviewing decisions and consulting with management on potential appeals • Participating in professional and community organizations • Conducting clinics and workshops • Staying up-to-date on legal knowledge through training and education opportunities • Abiding by professional standards of ethics and practice • Completing administrative tasks and maintaining case files • Ensuring compliance with grant requirements and assisting with grant reports • Other duties as assigned Qualifications: • License to practice law in Pennsylvania or eligible for admission to Pennsylvania • At least 2 years’ experience as a lawyer preferred • Proficiency in word processing, case management software, and online legal research tools • Passion for public interest law and serving low-income individuals • Strong written and oral advocacy skills • Willingness to take on complex and challenging cases and develop creative strategies Compensation and Benefits: • Base salary starting at $54,000, commensurate with experience • Excellent benefits, including 401K retirement plan with generous employer contributions, health insurance with 100% premium coverage, ancillary benefits, and generous leave provisions Equal Opportunity Employer: LASP is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in employment practices based on race, color, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic.
