The Fair Housing Justice Center (FHJC) is a non-profit organization that works to combat housing discrimination and promote fair housing rights for all individuals. We are currently seeking highly motivated law students for winter, spring, and summer internships to assist with our important work. As a legal intern with the FHJC, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the fight against housing discrimination and gain valuable experience in the legal field. Position: Legal Intern, Spring
Salary: Stipend of at least $5250 for summer internship
Experience: Rising 2Ls or 3Ls, law school or other funding preferred

Legal Internship Duties and Responsibilities:

- Conduct intake calls with complainants experiencing housing discrimination, gathering details and documentation for potential investigations
- Conduct legal research on fair housing laws and relevant issues for ongoing or potential litigation
- Assist with post-settlement monitoring of housing providers to ensure compliance with fair housing laws and settlement terms
- Participate in meetings with outside attorneys and lawmakers, observing preparations for negotiations, mediation, and discussions on litigation strategy
- Research and write briefs, memos, and other materials to support policy advocacy efforts

Our interns play a crucial role in our work, contributing to individual and systemic housing discrimination claims. Interns have helped secure positive outcomes for those affected by discriminatory practices, including damages and injunctive relief. In addition to working on individual cases, interns may also have the opportunity to contribute to policy matters related to local, state, and federal protections against discrimination.

The FHJC is committed to providing a stipend to interns who do not have law school or other funding, or who do not have full funding, for public interest summer internships. Our goal is for each summer intern to receive at least $5250 for their work. Through the Robert A. Martin Legal Fellowship Fund, we are able to provide this stipend to qualified candidates.
