A law firm in Washington, ., is seeking a dynamic Junior Patent Associate Attorney with 1-2 years of experience in patent prosecution. The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical engineering, and candidates with degrees in physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering with relevant experience in medical devices or wireless communications/networking are encouraged to apply. Strong academic credentials, superior writing ability, and USPTO admission are required. State Bar admission in the jurisdiction of practice, preferably in the District of Columbia or Pennsylvania (or eligibility to waive in), is also necessary.

Duties:

  • Engage in patent prosecution activities, including drafting and filing patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors and legal teams to assess and understand inventions.
  • Conduct legal research to support patent prosecution strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before the USPTO.
  • Evaluate and respond to office actions and other communications from the USPTO.
  • Provide technical expertise in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering, with a focus on medical devices or wireless communications/networking.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys in the development and execution of patent strategies.

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Ideal candidate will have an electrical engineering degree; candidates with degrees in physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering and relevant experience are encouraged.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Superior writing ability.
  • USPTO admission required.
  • State Bar admission in the jurisdiction of practice, preferably in the District of Columbia or Pennsylvania, or eligibility to waive-in.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
