In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on enforcement of Texas's privacy laws and protect consumers from fraud and deceptive advertising.

Job Title: Attorney-Privacy Team Member

Experience Information:
Minimum: Three years of full-time experience in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation
Preferred: Eight years of full-time experience in data privacy, consumer protection, privacy compliance, commercial litigation, or overseeing investigations/litigation

Job Description:
The Attorney-Privacy Team Member will work on enforcement of Texas's privacy laws, including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Law (TDPSA), and will collaborate with Division attorneys and staff. This role also involves representing the OAG before state and federal courts, monitoring privacy developments, and providing legal advice and counsel.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct and supervise consumer protection investigations
• Litigate civil enforcement cases from start to finish
• Research and analyze complex legal and factual matters related to cases
• Monitor privacy, cyber, and technology developments at the state and federal level
• Provide legal advice and assistance to clients and management
• Develop and implement effective litigation and enforcement strategies
• Represent the OAG before state and federal trial and appellate courts
• Evaluate proposed and enacted federal and state statutes, rules, and court decisions
• Participate in rulemaking and responding to legislative inquiries
• Provide training to less experienced staff
• Maintain knowledge of legal principles and practices related to data privacy
• Participate in community outreach activities
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree
• Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas and in good standing
• Three years of full-time experience in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation
• Strong legal research, writing, and analysis skills
• Experience with technology and software programs
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment
• Ability to provide excellent customer service
• Ability to work in person at assigned OAG location and travel as needed
• Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Eight years of full-time experience in data privacy, consumer protection, privacy compliance, commercial litigation, or overseeing investigations/litigation
• Knowledge of relevant privacy and consumer protection laws
• Experience with complex litigation, jury trials, and motion practice
• Ability to work collaboratively and within a larger organization
• Privacy-focused certifications such as CIPP-US, CIPM, CIPT, or CDPP
