Victims’ Rights Staff Attorney - Legal Services Department Organization: Asian Services In Action (ASIA) Location: Cleveland/Akron, Ohio Schedule: FTE, non-exempt Travel: May require travel for conferences, client assistance and upon request of supervisor Salary: Negotiable Asian Services In Action (ASIA) is a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been empowering Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in Northeastern Ohio since 1995. They are currently seeking a Victims’ Rights Staff Attorney to join their Legal Services Department. Job Description: The Legal Services Department provides technical and legal assistance to low-income individuals and families seeking various forms of legal relief. The Victims’ Rights Staff Attorney will specifically focus on assisting victims of crimes, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, with a strong emphasis on the immigrant and refugee communities. This position requires a minimum of an active registered, good-standing attorney in the State of Ohio. Bilingual abilities and prior experience working with foreign-born individuals and victims are advantageous. The Victims’ Rights Staff Attorney will report directly to the Chief Counsel and will be responsible for providing holistic legal services, including: • Immigration: - Evaluating the client’s immigration status and its impact on various civil areas of law - Applying for victim visas, including T-visas, U-visas, VAWA, and Asylum • Marsy’s Law: - Representing victims in criminal court hearings to ensure their rights are honored and their voices are heard • Protection Orders: - Assisting clients in obtaining all types of civil protection orders and related legal proceedings (. Motions to Show Cause, Motions to Modify, Motions to Terminate) • Family Law: - Handling cases related to divorces, dissolutions, custody, and child support • Abuse/Dependency/Neglect Cases Minimum Qualifications: • Active law license in the State of Ohio in good-standing with the Ohio Supreme Court • 1-3 years of practicing law in the State of Ohio preferred • Basic knowledge of client databasing and software • Strong legal research skills • Excellent communication skills, particularly in working with vulnerable communities • Experience working with immigrants and refugees, preferably in a trauma-informed environment • Ability to prioritize tasks and ensure high quality outputs and impact • Proficient writing and verbal communication skills • Familiarity with computer software, including MS Office • Valid Ohio State Driver’s License and ability to pass a criminal background check To Apply: Interested candidates should email their cover letter and resume to .
